Callander Environmental Conservation Group
Callander ECG's aims
Our aims

These are our founding principles:

1.) To challenge the National Park's Local Plan as it pertains to Callander, if necessary via the Scottish Parliament, on grounds of its being not fit for purpose;

2.) To monitor the policies of the NPA, as they relate to Callander, and to challenge those that we believe breach their statutory duty under the National Parks Act (Scotland) 2000;

3.) To ensure that our unique natural environment is protected from NPA-sanctioned destruction;

4.) To oppose any developments that will place our fragile infrastructure and local services under unacceptable stress;

5.) To oppose any development that will be vulnerable to flooding and/or increase the risk of flooding to existing properties and businesses;

6.) To oppose any significant increase in Callander's population on grounds that it cannot be be accommodated by the local jobs market. Access to education and employment further afield is impeded by a lack of public transport and therefore undermines Callander's effort to reduce its CO2 footprint;

7.) To encourage the NPA to carry out an audit of all empty and derelict properties in the Park Area and to assess their suitability for renovation - as an alternative to new-build;

8.) To call on the NPA to halt all major development until after 2016 when legislation will be introduced by the UK government stipulating that all new-build houses must be zero-carbon;

9.) To support the extension of Callander's Conservation Area as proposed in the NPA's Conservation Appraisal of Callander (but not in the Finalised Draft Local Plan), and to support efforts to improve public space in and around Ancaster Square;

10.) To insist that the democratic right of Callander residents to be properly consulted on the town's future is restored;

11.) To make it a requirement of the relationship between Callander and the National Park that the NPA puts the needs of residents, and the preservation of our natural environment and heritage, above the avarice of developers.
